A word from the Rolling River Teachers' Association

The Rolling River Teachers' Association consists of approximately 136 teachers, including substitutes who are under contract with Rolling River School Division. Our Association consists of an executive and school representatives that meet once a monthly. Our meetings are on the third Tuesday or Wednesday of each month 5:00 p.m.. All teachers and principals are welcome to participate in any of our meetings or activities. Please contact our secretary for information.

The RRTA is part of the Manitoba Teachers' Society, the professional organization of over 13,400 public school teachers in Manitoba. The MTS is Manitoba's 3rd largest labour organization, with standing committees on Collective Bargaining, Professional Development, Education Finance, Workplace Safety & Health, Teacher Education & Certification, and Group Benefits.

Our Goal? To work for and with the members of the Rolling River Teachers' Association and the Manitoba Teachers' Society to improve teaching conditions and the standard of education for all students in Rolling River School Division and Manitoba's public schools.

Do you have something to share or want to get involved? We are always looking for input from our membership. Let's hear from you!  Interested in becoming involved? Join us!

Rolling River Teachers' Association news

- Be aware of your rights; All RRTA members should be aware that when meeting with school division leadership you have rights as a member of the Manitoba Teachers’ Society.  If at a meeting you are compelled to respond to questions posed by school division leadership, you should first ask if you can have MTS representation with you before answering those questions. If the prior is not allowed, you must comply with the request made to respond to questions. Be sure to advise the person asking the questions that you are responding under protest and that you will be contacting MTS when the meeting is finished. Teachers need to be aware of the professional code of practice when answering questions.

If you have any questions regarding the results of the survey please direct them to the Executive of the RRTA. We wish to thank the professional and timely work of MTS staff (Joan Zaretsky and Glen McRuer). We invite all members and parents of students in Rolling River to examine the findings of this professionally prepared and legally significant document. We also wish to continue a dialogue specifically with the Board of Trustees in a professional/cordial manner that focuses on the "findings" of the survey.

- Members of the RRTA have reported back to PD Chair Lorraine Hodgson and have  requested a joint PD Committee be established with the Rolling River School Division. Our PD Chairperson continues to discuss with RRSD and RRTA members what that might look like. We look forward to the results of her discussions.(see committees page).

- We invite all members to consider their participation in the Rolling River Teachers Association in the capacity of school representative. It is very important that your school have its say at our RRTA Council meetings. Please consider getting involved this year.

- The RRTA Executive would like to notify its members of a Memorandum of Agreement whereby teachers may take their personal leave days as has been the practice in the past. Recent restrictions have been removed and teachers may take their personal leave days as they have always taken them .
